The International Olympic Committee has announced the addition of five new sports to the 2030 Winter Olympics program. The additions reflect the evolving landscape of winter sports and aim to attract younger audiences to the Games.
Among the new additions are ski mountaineering and ice cross downhill, two high-adrenaline sports that have gained massive followings in recent years. The other additions include updates to existing disciplines that expand participation opportunities.
"The Olympic Games must evolve with the times," said the IOC President. "These sports bring incredible athleticism, excitement, and a new generation of fans to the Winter Olympics."
Athletes from the newly included sports have expressed overwhelming joy at the announcement. "This is a dream come true for our entire community," said one ski mountaineering champion. "We've worked for years to get this recognition."
The decision was made following extensive consultation with national Olympic committees, international sports federations, and athlete representatives.
